A Better Leopard Dock

Thirty-plus hours of Leopard and so far my feelings on it are a mixed bag (I love the implementation of Spaces, I hate the kernel panics from the new networking code). One thing I decidedly dislike is the new Dock: all glitter and glam, no functional usability improvement. Quite frankly the new Dock looks like it was thrown in at the last minute to compete with Vista’s Aero look (”More reflections! We need more reflections!”) than it was a consideration for the user.
Fortunately there’s an easy way to switch the horizontal Dock’s look to the incredibly attractive, usable vertical Dock’s look. In the Terminal (love the new tabs) type the following:
% defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES
% killall Dock
Thank you John Siracusa and your yet-again amazingly in-depth OS review.
