The demise of the shellfish industry in the US can be directly traced to the way humans have devastated ocean shark populations, a new study suggests.
Humans eat big sharks, sharks eat rays, rays eat molluscs. And so it is that by drastically reducing populations of large sharks, humans have indirectly wiped out their own scallop-fishing industry.
