Another Windows User Switches to OS X: A Cautionary Tale

And I know what you’re thinking: “more zealotry?!?” and “Isn’t that war already over???” and “Booooring” but wait, I implore you. If you’re a developer (and a designer too), be it Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever, give this article a read. It’s interesting not because the author, Pete Wright, switched from one measely operating system to another (why any jackass can do that with enough cash and an emtpy social schedule) but rather because of Pete’s observations about the state of the software industry - our industry I’d hazard a guess gentle reader - that actually drove him to make the big switch:

Good bye Microsoft; Pete has now left the building!

I’m not even going to quote his article here, you should go there and read it that much.

See, Pete hits it right on the head. Nails the threat we all face in this industry, the empty shell we might, but for ever-persistent vigilance, one day become. To save his soul he rejects the world of the “day coders”, that of the pathetic corporate hacks, and fights his way back through the darkness.

That he chose to do so via OS X is incidental for this is a beautiful tale, a heart-warming tale, and ultimately a cautionary tale for all of us who spend our days in front of the machines, pecking away at the keyboards.

It’s not what’s on your hardware, but rather what’s in your heart.

Happy New Years!
