Shareware for Christmas

I’ve said it numerous times before and I’ll say it again: one of the things I love most about my Mac is the vibrant shareware community creating great software for it. Chances are if you’re a Mac user you too are using a few crucial shareware apps you just can’t live without.
So this year while you’re buying presents for everyone how about throwing a few bones to the shareware developers? Show them some love and buy a license or two for yourself.
This year I’m buying TextMate.
After years of using BBEdit for all my text editing needs I finally reached the tipping point where I’d heard so much about TextMate from so many developers who’s opinions I highly respect that I had to check it out for myself. After ten minutes of poking at it I was in love. So much so that I printed out the whole manual, took it home and read it cover to cover (the ending’s a bit weak but it has some nice twists). I am in love. And now that my PHP syntax colouring matches my BBEdit syntax colouring I need never go back. Ahh TextMate, I hope this initial glow never fades.
Give it a whirl and if you do, promote it! Blog what you bought and why. Be proud and thank a Mac shareware developer today.
