All That Spam, And No One Home

Lately some spammer has been putting this domain - postal-code.com - into the From: header of their spam emails, triggering a flood of bounce-backs from the receiving domains that have been ending up in my junk mailboxes. Amusingly about 90% of the returns are “Out of Office” auto-replies which means all this spam is actually […]

I Got Ruby for Christmas

For fun and profit I decided this holiday to once again dive back into Ruby (and more specifically Rails) and really knuckle down into the language, giving it as many eggnog and Bailey’s-soaked days of effort as I could. It’s a lot of fun - Ruby is a genuinely fun language to write in - […]

…and a Happy New Year

I love this LA Times article on the nature of Atheism: 10 myths — and 10 truths — about atheism.

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

ob.blog RSS Feed Has Changed

For fun I’ve changed the RSS feed URL for this site to one that uses Feedburner to manage the RSS feed. This allows me to get some stats about subscriptions, views, etc. that I don’t have at the moment.
For you this likely means no changes. The original RSS feed link will still work however if […]

Gadgets for Christmas

When you’ve already got all the general-purpose gadgets what do you ask for for Christmas? The specialized ones of course. I’ve got the laptop, the GPS, the laser level (everyone needs a laser level) so how about a Gloss Meter? And is there a Matte Meter? How about a Pearl Meter?*
If only those things had […]

Shareware for Christmas

I’ve said it numerous times before and I’ll say it again: one of the things I love most about my Mac is the vibrant shareware community creating great software for it. Chances are if you’re a Mac user you too are using a few crucial shareware apps you just can’t live without.
So this year while […]

Going For a Hike in China

This looks like great fun, if anyone know where that is please post in the comments.
However this comment at the end of the page is a little bit disconcerting:

I am an expert belayer if anybody needs someone to belay for them. Only three people of the 18 I have belayed for ever tumbled more […]

No .indexOf in WebKit?

I assumed that .indexOf() was a standard function for Javascript arrays however it seems that Safari doesn't support it:

Value undefined (result of expression allowedChrArr.indexOf) is not object.
http://www.testsite.dev/arraytest.php

What the hell?
Rolling my own works instead but really, seems like that should be standard. Or am I just missing something?
PLAIN TEXT
PHP:

function indexOf( $pArray, $pVal )

{

  var $theIndex = -1;

Stay Out’a the Village

From Whistler's snow report yesterday:

(It was an amazing day - blizzard-like, low visibility on 7th Heaven but powder powder everywhere!)
