Apparently My Heritage’s face recognition software has “taken the internet by storm” so I thought I’d give it a go and see which dashing celebrity I most look like. The photos below are of myself and my good friend Ky at a wedding this summer.
Evvidently all it takes to look like Dan Rather is a penguin suit and a smile:
Not bad I suppose, though I’d hazard a guess most people would not peg Ky and I for brothers with a common Dan Rather daddy.
Next up: weirdness. I guess I could have done worse but alas for Ky My Heritage seems to have gone right off the rails:
A 57% match for Ky with Venus Williams (”dude, it thinks you’re a chick!”) is 100% evidence this software is a joke. It thinks I look less like Luke Wilson than Ky does of Venus Williams. Really now?
Fun to play with and good for laughs but I do hope that this doesn’t represent the state of the art in face recognition.
(I must admit that the face scanning/finding bit is pretty neat).
