First Thoughts on Ubuntu 6.10

Ten minutes to install on a brand new, out of the wrapper, 250 Gig Barracuda drive. Five seconds to select Synaptic from the System menu. Three minutes of frozen system before having to do a hard reboot of the computer.

First thoughts: avoid Ubuntu 6.10 at all costs. Stick with 6.06 until the issues have been worked out, which, if the message boards are any indication, there are many. Many many many. Too bad, I was looking forward to this one.

Two milliseconds to decide to reinstall 6.06 and check back in a couple of months.

Update: Over on Global Nerdy Joey attempts to install Windows Vista RC1, with similar results:

I IM George and say “Good thing I didn’t have anything important on that box.” He says that that should be translated into Latin and put on the Microsoft crest.

I, on the other hand, have successfully gone back to Ubuntu 6.04. Now why the hell does GRUB not recognize my other drive…?
