See This Band: Mudmen

kingdomChances are if you went to university in Ontario you’re already familiar with Mudmen, probably without even knowing it. Chances are at some point you got good and drunk to ‘5 O’Clock’ or ‘Saturday‘ at least once. ‘Saturday’ is what you’d call a drinking punk’s anthem. And then there’s ‘Underdog’ which, in my opinion, may be the best Mudmen song ever and is worth buying their entire first CD alone for. And if you really had a clue you laughed at those who thought ‘Home for a Rest’ by Spirit of the Rest was good stomping music and threw on the Mudmen’s version instead. Ah, those were good times, they were.

Mudmen are probably the most under-appreciated Canadian punk band going right now which is why if you live in Toronto and you’re looking for something to do on July 29, you should head down to the Horseshoe, see them live, and check out their new album (songs to listen for: ‘Money Me’ and ‘I Feel Better’ and ‘How Do You Like Me Now’).

Really, how can you possibly go wrong with a punk band that sports two sets of bagpipes? Two sets dammit.
