What I Want in Safari

I want to get rid of the Bookmarks menu. Entirely. Gone. I dislike it immensely. It’s not the concept of bookmarks I dislike mind you, for I use them all the time. It’s Safari’s implementation of the Bookmarks menu that gets up my nose.
I never intentionally use that menu. In fact I’ve trained myself to stay far from it, because any time I click on the Bookmarks menu in Safari I get the spinning beach ball for many, many seconds. I get that Safari is using this spinning beachball time to build and populate the menu but surely there’s a better way?
Problem is: because I hate the spinning beachball so much I now never intentionally click the Bookmarks menu so when I do it’s by accident and usually because I meant to click something else. Now I have the spinning beachball preventing me from accomplishing what I actually wanted to accomplish.
Dear Safari team: I would like to be able to disable the Bookmarks menu entirely.
Dear Saft/Stand/other Safari extension writers: Please give me the option to remove the Bookmarks menu.
Don’t make me crack open Safari in Interface Builder and do it myself.
