The Firefox Installer Rosetta Stone
On the Mac I use Safari because, despite all the advances it has been making, Firefox on the Mac is still butt-ugly and too slow to launch. However today Firefox 1.5 was released so I figured I’d give it a try again.
Download the disk image, open it up and… ta-da huh?
I’ve been using OS X […]
PongSaver
I love stuff like this: PongSaver.
A couple of days ago, someone showed me the Pong Clock. Like any self-respecting programmer should, I instantly wanted one of my own. Not having the hardware to make a stand-alone clock, I opted to make a Mac OS X screensaver instead.
In a word: sweet.
Don’t Buy RAM From Apple
This post from Joey about his quest to find RAM for his PowerBook makes me think I should mention the, the cardinal rule of buying a Mac:
Never, ever buy extra RAM from Apple. You’ll never get a good price for it.
Buy the minimum your machine comes with and then shop around. A little online […]

Sony Rootkits Its DRM, Part VI: RIAA ‘Bait & Switch’
Somehow the head of the RIAA, Cary Sherman, thought that opening his mouth and speaking out about the Sony rootkit fiasco in an attempt to defend Sony was a good idea. It wasn’t, since he gets the facts patently wrong and/or outright lies about the situation:
The problem with the SonyBMG situation is that the technology […]
Warning Label Generator
Shamelessly stealing this post from Full Frontal Lobotomy: the Warning Label Generator.
Link Wray Dead at 76
He invented the power chord, he paved the way for the Ramones, the Sex Pistols and Green Day. He gave us Rumble and with it he garnered the singular distinction of having the only instrumental song ever banned from radio.
He is Link Wray and he is dead at 76:
“He is the king; if it hadn’t […]
Adium 0.87 Beta Released
Adium is one of those open-source projects I just love to love. Today they released 0.87 beta1.. and beta2.
If you’re hard-core Adium you already know that once a version goes into beta you can pretty much expect a release almost every day until it goes final, but two in one day?! Crazy.
0.87b2 0.87b3 […]
Apple Investing in LLVM for GCC 4?
From this posting over on the GCC list by Chris Lattner it would appear that Apple is looking to push forward with the LLVM compiler optimizer, integrated against GCC 4.
Given that the current release of GCC with OS X is only 4.0.1 while the actual official current release is 4.1.0 could this be seen […]
Ubuntu: Setting Fonts in Torsmo
I got nothin’ but tips and tricks these days.
If you’re running Ubuntu and Torsmo and having problems setting the font in Torsmo, you’re probably trying something like:
#font 7×13
font 6×10
#font 8×13
where font 6×10 is the one you’re trying to display, try using Xft font display instead:
# Xft font when Xft is enabled
xftfont aquafont-9
Worked for me.
