Installing Breezy Badger III
Huh. Well that didn’t work.
Installing Breezy Badger II
And by “streaming” I mean “trickling” as in 30 K/s peak. If you could all kindly stop doing it until I’ve completed my update, I’d appreciate it… unless there’s serious issues in which case, by all means, please do go first.
Installing Breezy Badger
The upgrade begins, using the apt-get instructions on the Ubuntu wiki. sources.list has been updated and 600 megs of misc junk are streaming their way onto my machine as we speak. Let the wreaking of the havok commence.
Easy Ubuntu
Later tonight I’ll be taking a stab at (re-)installing my Ubuntu distro because, since I’ve done it five or six times already in the course of getting this mythical MythTV box running, I might as well do it again with Breezy Badger. More on that later.
In the meantime, if you’re contemplating doing the same, check [...]
Express Yourself
Jason has written a regular expression tester called Express Yourself and released it at my behest.
In my defence, I’m pretty sure I didn’t say “like”. I hope.
Ignorance: 14, Education: 0
I don’t want to suggest that the American education system might be failing but… it’s failing. Failing so very, very badly:
Who’s next?
“Sri Lanka… never heard of it.”
Geeks vs. Suits
Remember that Sesame Street sketch in which one of these things is not like the other? You too can play along with the Web 2.0 Conference’s speaker list:
…Chief Marketing Officer… responsible for… marketing strategy and operations
…
…grew the company from $4 million to an annualized rate of more than $400 million
…
…holds an M.B.A., B.S., and B.A. [...]
BBEdit CSS Syntax Checker 1.0
John Gruber has written what may be my favourite BBEdit script addition ever: BBEdit CSS Syntax Checker 1.0.
It automatically connects to the W3’s CSS Validator and runs your stylesheet through it, reporting all errors inside of a standard BBEdit window.
I cannot recommend this thing enough. In fact, I wanted it so much I upgraded my [...]
Key-value coding in Cocoa, explained
This is why I love Cocoa, though I don’t spend nearly enough time in it: Key-Value Coding (KVC) and Generic Programming:
Key-Value Coding (KVC) is a Cocoa protocol for getting and setting values generically. In programming, the term “generically” describes a way of doing things that applies to many different situations.
…
This is where the KVC magic [...]
Breezy Badger
I just found out that Breezy Badger, the next release of Ubuntu Linux, is due out on October 13. This makes me happy; this Linux distro kicks some serious ass (and is the version I’m endeavouring to build my MythTV box on).
