Welcome to Mexico

Down in Cancun Canadians are being stranded by the hurricanes pummelling the east coast. The airlines sound like they’re doing what they can for those they can’t fly out:

“The head office people arranged us to be bused out of Cancun and put in a hotel with reasonable lodgings, and that sounded like a pretty good plan at the time,” said Cardwell.

“However when we got to this town, when we got to our lodgings, they were absolutely unacceptable … we have no running water, as of nine o’clock tonight, we have no electricity because the whole town is being blacked out in case of the storm causes any damage.” - Ontarians stranded in hurricane-hit Mexico

Damn, no running water or electricity while the place is being pounded by hurricanes? Those insensitive corporate bastards, how could they? And in Mexico no less, veritable world leader in state-of-the-art amenities and infrastructure.

Allow me to make a suggestion: hop on the next bus heading down south and around, spend a day on some of the craziest roads you’ll ever travel along to get to the west coast , hit a small beach town like Zipolite where you might have running water and electricity but if you don’t you’ll still survive, the beer will still be cold and the food will still be good, sit your ass down on the beach and watch the sun set over the other ocean. You’ll be a better man for it.

Your girlfriend will probably leave you for subjecting her to the bus ride, but trust me, you’ll end up happy.
