No registration required

Previously people needed to register with this site in order to comment. This measure was designed to prevent comment spam, and thus far it’s been 100% effective, however it is a pain in the ass for anyone who wants to comment.
Today I’ve installed WP Hashcash and removed the need for registration. We’ll see if this is sufficient to block comment spam. If not, registration will once again be required - but for now: the doors are open.
Update: “Where’d the Archive go?” Deleted. It occurred to me today that never on a blog have I used the Archive feature, that it’s a crap way to try and find something on someone’s site. So in the interest of conserving and preserving delicate, precious pixels I’ve removed the Archive. Search, however, is still fully functional.
Update 2: If you’re a Mac OS X user you’ve probably noticed that the Search field in the upper right no longer looks like a regular HTML form text field but rather an OS X search field, complete with search history. Sweet eh? To everyone else: too bad for you.
Thanks to Paul Armstrong for the very elegant implementation code.

Testing the no-registration comment process. Were this a real comment, someone would probably be offended.
You’re a wild-man alright!
Yeah. Talk about a risk-taker.
Ever been hit with 3000 comment spam in 48 hours? Until you’ve been through that horror….
Come to think of it, don’t go anywhere, let me just tweak this script… blog-j right?
Did google ever initiate the rel=”nofollow” ?
They apparently did, according to this post. If you view the source for this page you’ll see that WP has implemented it as well.
