The silence is deafening

This blog has been pretty quiet for the past couple of weeks but with good reason: behind the scenes I’ve been porting from MovableType, which this blog is currently powered by, to WordPress, which it will soon be powered by.
This has necessitated the porting of all the posts and all the comments as well as redeveloping the HTML and CSS from scratch (a good thing, it’s much cleaner now).
I’ve undertaken this move for a number of reasons:
- I like PHP way more than Perl. Perl makes my soul hurt
- WP doesn’t need to live in /cgi-bin/. I don’t much like working in /cgi-bin/
- I’d like to be able to re-enable comments with some degree of assurance that I won’t be flooded by gambling spam and pr0n offfers
- MovableType is now a commercial product, effectively locking me out of the upgrade path
- WordPress is open-source with a vibrant community behind it
- I was bored
The biggest change that will result from this may be the death of the existing RSS feed though I hope not. If I’m feeling particularly ambitious this weekend I may hack together a WP plugin that outputs the RSS feed to the same URL that MT does, thus effctively making this issue moot. We’ll see.
Stay tuned for the relaunch….
