A question for Windows XP

When two identical modal dialog boxes need to be popped up in succession why do you insist on popping them up in different places on the screen?

It is mildly infuriating to move the mouse over to the Cancel button, click it, know that I’ll want to click Cancel on the next dialog as well, and have it pop up way across the screen.

Surely implementing the clever dialog-mover algorithm was more difficult than just having them appear in one constant place at all times, wasn’t it?

Did someone get paid to do that?

While I’m on the subject of Windows, here’s a little thing that’s always weirded me out about it: menus can have menus.

Example: the Start menu. The Start menu displays My Computer, which in turn displays a submenu. Right-clicking in the submenu displays another menu on top of it (the one with “Open” at the top). I find the menus on menus thing strange and disconcerting. Could then that next menu also have menus and if not why not?
