Got Mono? Good times.

OnDotNet.com is running a great new interview with Miguel de Icaza on the state of Mono: Miguel de Icaza Explains How to “Get” Mono.

Since OpenCola (holy crap, we have a Wikipedia page!) I haven’t been hanging around many Linux geeks in person so I don’t really have a feel for how quickly or eagerly Mono’s being adopted and anticipated over there. But in the Mac and Windows world it still seems to be flying well under the radar, which is a shame because it may currently be the most interesting project in commodity software development out there.

This article is the first time I’ve seen MonoDevelop running in OS X, inside X11 of course, which is pretty damned cool: if I could create Mac apps without needing to continue my slog through Obj-C and instead leverage all the C# I already know then I’m a very happy coder.

(And much as it pains me to admit it, C# is a superior language though I will admit that a big part of the problem with Obj-C is not the language itself but rather XCode; as an IDE it’s not in the same league as Visual Studio .Net).

I’ll be following Mono very closely and with much anticipation.
