Funniest thing I’ve read all day
From this discussion over on /. about the Genesis probe’s improperly designed deceleration sensors:
Radioisotopes don’t grow on trees..
What about Carbon-14?
(Slashdot Warning: If you’re going to delve into comments on /. you’ll want to set your Threshold to 5 first.)
Belittling the disabled kids
Over on the Traditional Values Coalition website they’re condemning a flyer that’s been making the rounds comparing George Bush Jr. with the retarded kids of the Special Olymmpics:
Washington, DC, — “Tennessee State Representative Craig Fitzhugh should be ashamed of himself for allowing his campaign office to distribute a flyer belittling Special Olympics children,” said Traditional [...]
Oh, the End User
Danny O’Brien, in his latest To Evil! article, defines the mythical software end-user perfectly:
Unfortunately, open source doesn’t really believe in End Users. To those sentimental fools, sharing software doesn’t have an end, and users are just friends who haven’t submitted a patch yet.
Brilliant.
Surprisingly articulate, that debate
Compared to the Presidential debate, the Vice-presidential one left me feeling pretty good, primarily because both men came across as being intelligent and lucid.
That said, it was fun watching Cheney spend the evening on the defensive as Edwards picked him apart.
Redmond pushes Firefox
“The Unofficial Voice of the Microsoft IT Community” (you can tell they work with MS by the huge unweildy all-encompassing tag line) is also now pushing the switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox in Time to Dump IE?.
Now we’re beset by increasingly common—and dangerous—security vulnerabilities. We knew IE was integrated with Windows, but we didn’t [...]
One more Firefox switcher
Over on c|Net Charles Cooper, die-hard Windows & Microsoft lover, describes his reasons for finally abandoning IE in favour of Firefox in Why I dumped Internet Explorer. A good read, especially if you’re still a Windows user sitting on the fence:
I finally loaded Firefox at home. To my surprise, the product won me over [...]
Movie Review: Reign of Darkness
I think I still have twenty minutes left of this film to watch but it may very well take the rest of my life to watch it. This film is bad. Bad bad bad bad bad.
Its amazing what you end up with when you combine a cast of actors who can’t act, a plot with [...]
Post-debate
Ahh, the harsh light of sobriety shines itself upon the outcome and the resolution is: it still sucked. But the pundits seem to think that Kerry won it and perhaps somehow, somewhat that’ll turn into actual numbers in the polls.
Me, I’m still depressed.
So when’s the Cheney/Edwards debate?
