Its been said for years and years and until now largely written off as the lunatic rantings of the fringe open-source crowd but now it’s official: you should not be using Internet Explorer as your browser: U.S. Steers Consumers Away From IE
The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team touched off a storm this week when it recommended for security reasons using browsers other than Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer.
…
The particular virus initiated this week inserts Java script into certain Web sites. When users visit those sites, it initiates pop-up ads on home and office computers, and allows keystroke analysis of user information. The target is believed to be credit card numbers. CERT estimated that as many as tens of thousands of Web sites may be affected.
Under Windows I, like nearly everyone else shifting from IE in droves, am now using Firefox, a free open-source browser from the Mozilla group that kicks serious ass. Even if IE weren’t the horrible security threat that it is you should be using Firefox, if only for the tabbed browsing feature.
Trust me: download Firefox, take your computer to its happy place.
