You’d never guess it came from Alabama

Via Mykeru.com comes a link to this “you all gonna burn in hell!” editorial from the Daily Mountain Eagle in Alabama, written by Susan Sanford, titled: “Sodom and Gomorrah revisited”. You know you’re in for a good time when the religious right starts ranting about those two.

My first question is, do these people not read the Bible? Have they forgotten Sodom and Gomorrah? At what point do they think the Lord changed His mind about the sin of homosexuality?

Not only that, but we should be worried that this group and their supporters have worked diligently to have themselves - common sinners, according to God’s word - declared a special minority. So now, if you stand up and speak out against them, you are automatically “discriminating” against them.

She doesn’t seem to understand that speaking out against something you disagree with is alright, it’s acting against it that constitutes discrimination. However that’s not really all that surprising. What weirds me out is that she doesn’t just advocate discrimination, she advocates their death.

I’d also suggest that those of us, straight and gay, who do support gay marriage to take umbrage with being called “common sinners”. To paraphrase Die Hard: “They’re not a common sinners, they’re exceptional sinners!”.

Mykeru.com does an excellent, and thoroughly entertaining job dissecting this bit of sociopathic hysteria so I’m not going to bother. It’s not like it’ll change their minds anyhow, but it is a lot of fun to read.

(I’m having a lot of fun with this whole gay marriage issue. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel except these fish are really pissed off and they smell much better once dead.)
