Just Canadian?

As I was walking to my car today an older gentleman approached me and asked if I was leaving the parking spot I was in; he then indicated he wanted it. We got to chatting briefly, mainly about my Jeep - how much, what year, etc. - and then, as we were parting, he said: “Tell me, what nationality are you?”
“Canadian”, I replied.
“Canadian!” he exclaimed, “we are all Canadian! But I am Croation and my friend” he pointed at the man in the driver’s seat of their car, “is Ukranian. So really, what are you?”
“Well”, I answered, “I guess that’s the difference between you and me. I’m just Canadian.”
He laughed, nodded, I’d like to think in understanding, and I drove off, proud to be just Canadian.
