F-O-X News?

These days I get all my news from Daily Rotten - all the crap, none of the thinking (I mean that in the nicest way). While reading a couple of articles today I noticed that Fox News-affiliated sites are hyphenating all the acronyms on their sites ala: C-N-N, P-C, D-N-A, and F-N-I-N-A-R-N-N* which seems not only really strange but actually hard to read.

Examples: C-N-N admits producer planted question in Democratic presidential debate and Woman claims she gave Louisiana serial-killing suspect’s name to police.

Is this the print equivalent to the Fox glowing pink hockey puck, a tool to make it easier for readers to understand the story? Is Fox literally spelling out the acronyms to ensure that readers understand that they’re collections of discreet letters and not actual full-fledged words?

* figure it out for yourself.
