Steve “Salad with Steve” Jenson points out that one of the (likely small but important) reasons his move to Google* was enjoyable was that his lack of a Comp.Sci degree was not an impediment:
When we were being acquired, Wayne [Rosing, Google Engineering lead - ed.] said that my lack of a degree didn’t matter because 1) it was obvious that I could do my job since I had already done it, and 2) he didn’t have a degree, either.
Which makes this degree-less developer feel pretty good too. (A single fourth-year English credit short, if you must know).
* Steve, super-Python programmer, worked for blogging company Pyra, who created Blogger and then got bought by Google.
