john a. halderman of princeton university has discovered that mediamax cd3 anti-pirating, copyright protection, copy-prevention technology can be circumvented simply by holding down the ’shift’ key when you insert the cd into your pc, as he notes in analysis of the mediamax cd3 copy-prevention system:

i find that the protections may have no effect on a large fraction of deployed pcs, and that most users who would be affected can bypass the system entirely by holding the shift key every time they insert the cd.

which may mean that the ’shift’ key is now a circumvention technology and thus may thus be illegal under the provisions of the dmca 9ianal, but just to be safe - no more shift key for me0.
