1st Rule of Film Club: Tell everyone about Film Club

We’re sick of Canadian filmsdashing in and out of theatres so fast you’d think they’d stolen something from the lobby.

With no money to market them, most Canadian films don’t come with the built-in audiences that Miramax or Universal can create. And since no one hears about them, no one goes. But with no one paying to see them, Canadian films can’t get money for promotion. It’s a Catch-22.

But wait! There’s hope! Your bum, and the bums of your friends, have the power to break the cycle!

THIS Magazine’s Opening Weekend Film Club!

Here’s how it works: send an email to filmclub@thismagazine.ca We’ll send you a notice of upcoming films, release dates, and invites toTHIS Magazine’s occasional post-film gatherings. It’s that simple.

You forward it to your friends, acquaintances, just about anyone you can think of, and go see the movie duringthe critical opening weekend. Presto! The audience has grown!

Clubs like this have been organized to support African American and Queer cinema throughout the United Statesand there is a First Weekend Club in Vancouver that attends Canadian films. Join in.
